The hottest fashion trend for the season is undoubtedly color. Bright, bold colors have been all the rage so far in 2013 and, of course, that continues with eyewear. This week, I took a guided tour and taste test to discover my favorite teas from Teavana.  Looking at the loose teas, the first thing you notice is the beauty of the natural ingredients, including the tea leaves, buds of flowers and dried fruits.  After taste testing, you discover tea, like wine has different intensities and fruit notes.  Here are a few of my favorites:

Youthberry Wild Orange Blossom Tea Blend

Youthberry is a great way to get started discovering Teavana teas.  The flavors are fresh and lively and seem to burst with orange blossoms in your mouth.  There are also hints of pineapple and citrus flavors and super fruits like acai, red currants, and mango, to help detox.

Blueberry Bliss Rooibos Tea

The essence of summer is captured in this lovely blend called Blueberry Bliss.  The flavor is very fruit forward with hints of berries, grapes, and black currants, as well as a slight hint of hibiscus flowers.  Like all my teas, I like to sweeten them slightly with the rock sugar, which if you haven’t tried, puts regular sugar to shame.

The Hangover – Part III

There is no wedding, no bachelor party – just the Wolfpack on the road.  However, it’s not just any roadtrip.  The Wolfpack is on the hunt for the one and only Mr. Chow.  Bradley Cooper, Justin Bartha, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis return for part three.  This is the final film of The Hangover series – so they say!  Rated R.  Opens Friday, May 24. 

Man of Steel

The story of Superman isn’t new, but this will be an updated and epic version of the classic story.  Henry Cavill, best known for “The Tudors,” portrays Clark Kent.  Clark learns as a boy that he has extraordinary powers.  As a young man, he attempts to learn where he came from and eventually save the world from annihilation as Superman.  There is plenty of star power in the film – Oscar nominees Amy Adams plays Lois Lane and Kevin Costner and Diane Lane play Clark’s adoptive parents.  Rated PG-13.  Opens Friday, June 14.

The Wolverine

The summer of 2013 is definitely the summer of the superhero, wrapping up with The Wolverine.  Hugh Jackman is back as Wolverine and is as ripped as ever.  The film takes Wolverine to Japan where he will face a host of unexpected and deadly opponents in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed.  Not yet rated.  Opens Friday, July 26.

Columbian handbag designer, Nancy Gonzalez, recently stopped by Neiman Marcus NorthPark for a special in-store appearance. Even after 15 years in business, she says she still gets excited when she spots a woman carrying one of her iconic crocodile handbags. One of her newest bags is the Cristina, named after her daughter. It comes in several colors including the above electric blue shade. We’ve seen rounded toes, square toes but the pointed toe is definitely making a comeback this season. They are everywhere! The look is very polished and sophisticated. Look for clear shoes with lots of embellishment too. It will look like the embellishments are floating on your feet!

Designers are making boots with cut out, open toes and sling-backs so we can wear them anytime we want, no matter what the temperature is. Spring boots are super stylish and can be worn with skirts and dresses as well as leggings, shorts and jeans. They are very versatile. And, even better, it’s perfectly fine to wear your spring boots in the winter with tights!

Spring/Summer sandal season is here so that means the pedicures need to be perfect! I love trying out new colors on my toes. I recently received an email from Chanel promoting their new color "Taboo" from the Chanel Revelation Collection. I instantly started having heart palpitations LOL I am crazy about this new color and think it would be perfect for my next pedicure. I love the fact that Flik Flak watches undergo a variety of tests to make sure that the materials are non-toxic, and that the watches are tested for durability since children can be very active, as we all know. This trend is for the girl looking for something a little edgy for prom. The Hi-Lo hemline look is more conservative in the back and flirty in the front. The longer train in back gives a more romantic feel. Because of the cut of the dress, you will want to pay extra attention to your shoe selection since they will most certainly stand-out.

PEPLUM STYLES

Peplum has been a big trend since last year and we are seeing lots of peplum options for prom. A peplum style will nip at the waist, creating an hour glass shape. If you have a more boyish figure, it can help create curves and if you are curvy, a peplum will enhance your shape.

ONE-SHOULDER DRESSES

A one-shoulder dress is super flattering a great choice for prom. It’s sophisticated and yet still flirty, showing just the appropriate amount of skin. I think it’s a very elegant and classic look. Depending on the neckline, I would more than likely avoid a necklace and, instead, accessorize with some statement earrings and fun bracelets or a chunky cocktail ring.

My favorite Easter outfits are the ones that reflect the spring season with beautiful bright colors and patterns.  GapKids NorthPark offers this adorable Poplin dress with matching hair band in shades of pinks, yellows, and oranges and in a pattern that is updated retro.  The dress is comfortable in 100% cotton and is machine washable (for after the Easter egg hunt), but it also has the sweet details that make it special, including the folded trim mock neck and keyhole button and loop closure in the back.

When the weather allows, a nice pair of shorts are appropriate for Easter service when paired with the right shirt and accessories.  I love this “Bright Prepster” look from Gymboree NorthPark that features a sunny gingham shirt paired with the yellow V-neck sweater vest. The look is completed with some classic accessories – a brown belt, boat shoes, and plaid tie.

For the classic Easter look, Gymboree NorthPark offers a number of staple pieces that will work for Easter, as well as other spring parties.  Little boys will look like gentlemen in this colorful Tattersall shirt in pastel shades, dress tie, and khaki linen pants.  The cable sweater vest and boat shoes complete this dressed-up look.

Can you say 1980’s?! I think this is the trend I am most excited about this season. Clear bags are such a hot trend but I like these Furla jelly bags from Nordstrom even more. They aren’t completely see-through and come in such fun colors. They are a large size so you can fit everything you need and more. The jelly material is so fun and easy to keep clean. Great for the fun and fashionable mom on the go!

NAUTICAL/STRIPED TOTES

Stripes are really on trend this season and I love them even more in handbags. I think they look crisp and clean and add some sophistication to any outfit. Nautical styles like this one from Michael Kors are perfect for spring/summer when we are spending time at the beach, pool or lake. This is a vacation bag must!

MINI CROSSBODY BAGS

Speaking of travel, no matter where you are headed, it’s so nice to go hands free. Mini crossbody bags like this one from Tory Burch are perfect for travel, shopping, or errand running. They hold all the essentials without weighing you down.

PERFORATED LEATHER

Perforated or cut-outs are a HUGE trend this season. I love this one from Ann Taylor. The cutouts add interesting detail and dimension. They are super stylish and super trendy. The look is edgy and modern.  

COLORBLOCK HANDBAGS

We are seeing colorblocking in handbags everywhere. The trend is very popular in fashion. I love the look because it is very polished and sophisticated. Some bags incorporate several different colors but I prefer colorblock handbags to have no more than 3 different shades like the one above from Dillard’s. Otherwise, it is too chaotic-looking.

FRINGE HANDBAGS

For those who love the bohemian trend and a great 70s throwback, a fringe handbag is the perfect accessory. It’s stylish while also easy, laid back and chic. This bag by Stella McCartney is definitely more of a casual look and feel but a conversation piece no less.

I am a regular at drybar NorthPark. There is nothing I enjoy more than letting someone else shampoo, condition and blow dry my hair. On the unfortunate occasion that I have to do my own hair, I can now, at least, use the same products that the stylists do. drybar recently launched its own line of hair tools and products. I could pour over the tie selection at Nordstrom for hours, so many great colors and patterns to choose from.  I love Nordstrom’s in-house men’s line, John W. Nordstrom, for their work and dressy styles for men.  This John W. Nordstrom woven silk tie ($79.50) is colorful and perfect for spring. 

Can you get more classically cool than Burberry?  I think not!  I adore this tie ($150) and the shades of blue.  Burberry calls it Pale Petrol Blue to be exact.  The Burberry plaid will always be in style and so will he with this tie!

Pre-Easter Brunch/Photos with the Easter Bunny & Easter Brunch

La Duni NorthPark has one of the best brunches in town and they are offering an opportunity to get a jumpstart on EAster with a special brunch with the Easter Bunny this Sunday at 9:30am.  For $25 for adults and $15 for children (10 and under), you can enjoy special breakfast with the family.

I love the feel of the new Bread Winners at NorthPark Center.  It's open, airy and the kids love playing on the patio, especially on a nice day. 

Bread Winners will be open for Easter Sunday brunch from 8:00am to 4:00pm and will offer some of their awesome brunch items, including the Bread Winners Benedict, Banana Bread French Toast and Leo's Favorite Scramble.  For kids, you can't go wrong with the Egg, Bacon and Pancake Breakfast.  For dessert, they will feature some special treats just for Easter and some oh-so-cute Easter Bunny cookies.  There are no reservations.  Arrive early for a shorter wait!

Easter Lunch

Seasons 52 is another recent addition to NorthPark that offers some great healthy dining options, including their fabulous tray of decadent dessert bites.  For Easter, they will make moms feel extra special by handing out single roses.  Some of their popular items include the Grilled Garlic Pesto Chicken, Spicy Pork Tacos and Rocky Mountain Buffalo Burgers.  For kids, popular choices include the cheese flatbread, grilled chicken and penne pasta.  They open at 11:00am and are accepting reservations at 214.361.5252.

COLORED FRAMES

Just like in fashion, there is color everywhere, including in sunglasses.  You will see sunglasses in shades like navy, green, red, yellow, orange, purple, pink and just about any other color you can imagine.  Colored frames are definitely in style this season!  These Celine frames scream high fashion!

COLORED LENSES

Colored lenses are also super trendy right now.  We are seeing them in metallic shaes iike gold and silver, as well as fun colors like orange and green.  Who wouldn't look effortlessly chic in these shades by Tom Ford?!

CAT EYE

The cat eye has been a trend for several seasons now and it continues.  So many celebrities love the cat eye, including Angelina Jolie and Kourtney Kardashian.  Look for the cat eye in colorful styles like the one above by Kate Spade New York. 

As the saying goes, however,  “April showers bring May flowers” which means we’ve got some wet weather to be prepared for.  I hit Nordstrom NorthPark over the weekend and found some great stuff to keep you rain ready, but still stylish! 

This Kate Spade New York “Pop Art” umbrella ($75) keeps with the black and white trend that’s hot for the season and also throws in a pop of pink.  I’m a sucker for pink, so I absolutely love this umbrella! 

These Hunter Rain Boots ($135) are on my spring must-have shopping list!  They are stylish, yet functional.  Best of all, they come in a variety of colors.  Pick your favorite color or get a few pairs and wear whatever color you’re in the mood for that day!   

You really can’t go wrong with anything Burberry and the “Bowpark” Raincoat ($795) is no exception! I love the fit of this coat; it serves its purpose while still looking stylish.  The peek of the iconic Burberry plaid on the sleeve is a nice touch.  The best part of this raincoat is that it has a detachable lining.  If it’s chilly, you can keep the lining in for extra warmth.     

Of course, I’ve found these cute pieces just in time!  Nordstrom Fashion Rewards members will earn triple points on their purchases this Wednesday through Sunday! 

There are so many fun, new shoe trends for Spring. We’ve seen black and white, embellished heels, single soles have made a comeback and so have pointy pumps. But I think the most interesting trend in shoes right now is all the rage surrounding clear shoes. I spotted these Valentino Naked Rockstud leather pumps at Nordstrom and they are truly amazing. When you put them on, the studs seem to magically float on your foot. If you love shoes, these will truly be your newest obsession!

PAPER SOURCE is full of adorable Easter décor and goodies right now.

Of course, no Easter is complete without a chocolate bunny!  Swing by Godiva and pick up a delicious chocolate bunny.  Available in dark or milk chocolate.  Godiva, $6.50 each.

PEAR SHAPE

If you are pear shape, that means you are smaller on top (chest and waist) and larger on bottom (hips and thighs). A-line cuts look great on someone who is pear shape. You should find clothes that accentuate your small waist. Avoid boxy clothes on top or anything that is big and baggy. Also, avoid tight-fitting jeans or pants or anything that would draw attention to bigger hips and thighs. Must have items for your closet-- belts, cropped jackets, blouses and tops that are tailored, wrap dresses and slim-fitting t-shirts.

PETITE

If you are petite, it is easy to be overwhelmed with lots of bulky fabrics. Shorter dresses (above the knee) and skirts look best on you. You can definitely pull off a cute mini-skirt. Anything below the knee or mid-calf will make you look shorter. Maxi dresses and Capri/crop pants are hard to pull off when you are petite so I advise against them. Nude heels are your best friend because the color will elongate the legs. Your other best friend is your tailor. Petite girls more often than not need to have their clothes altered to fit. This is very important!

HOUR GLASS/CURVY SHAPE

If you are a curvy/hour glass shape (larger chest, small waist and larger hips and thighs), there are lots of great options to show off that figure. V-necks look great on you because they will highlight your cleavage and elongate the body. Avoid thin or clingy fabrics and, instead, choose stronger and more substantial materials. Stick to solids instead of busy prints and patterns. Don’t wear loose and baggy clothes. Show off your figure and look for items that define the waist.

TALL/NO CURVES

If you are tall with few curves, there are easy ways to look more feminine. A-line dresses will help create some shape. Also, straight leg jeans with fitted at the waist jackets and blazers will give you more definition. Play up your long legs with above the knee skirts and dresses, but be careful not to go too short. Look for fitted and tailored tops that nip in at the waist. This is important to help create curves. Avoid anything baggy or boxy.

Vera Bradley Baby is launching with two sweet patterns that are utilized in all of their new products– a paisley called Tutti Fruiti in green, pink, blue and orange and a floral print called Lilli Bell in pink, orange, and green.  The two prints are super sweet for the girliest of babies. I was able to preview the new collection, and here are a few of my favorite picks.

Baby Clothes

The one-piece baby outfit (aka “onesie”) is a wardrobe essential during the first 6 months of life, and I even remember my kids wearing it until they were close to one years old.   Vera Bradley baby offers an adorable selection of these important pieces in both long and short sleeves, so baby can transition from one season the next.  My personal favorite is the Ruffle Body Suit in Lilli Bell that features sweet little ruffles on the top of baby’s little tush!   Also available are the most adorable dresses with bloomers. 

Shoes

If there is one thing I have learned from having two babies, it’s that shoes are a lost cause unless they are soft and fit like socks.  If they’re not comfy, it’s simply not going to work, no matter how cute they are. Vera Bradley seems to understand the needs of moms, and offer in their new line two styles of shoes that won’t be pulled off within the first few minutes.  The Mary Jane Soft Shoes are available in both fabrics with embroidery details and bows along the top. 

Accessories

From baby’s rattle and blanket to changing pads and special cases designed for baby’s pacifier and bottle, there are a number of accessories available in the new print designs.  Moms will look oh-so-chic, and together when baby is coordinated with accessories!

Toys

A new book available exclusively at Vera Bradley tells the sweet tale of two animals, Bunny and Bear, with the heartwarming message of “May your little one always know the true meaning of friendship.”  The book makes a great gift and can be complimented by the two, huggable plush animals in the paisley and floral designs that are also available for sale.

Most of us know the importance of using moisturizer on our face, but there still many who don’t use serums. I recommend both. A serum can penetrate deeper into the skin’s surface than a regular moisturizer can.

A calm and peaceful atmosphere is key to great sleep.  Brookstone is full of products to help you sleep, but my favorite is the Tranquil Moments Advanced Sleep Sound Machine.  It plays 16 different sound programs to help you relax and lull you to sleep.  It also has a built-in alarm clock for the inevitable wake up call, which unfortunately, most of us can’t avoid!  $169.99 at Brookstone.

I’ve given you some great ideas to help you get a great night’s sleep, but sometimes a late night or sleepless night happens.  If that’s the case, start your morning with the Chic and Chilly Eye Mask from Henri Bendel.  Put the cooling pack insert in the freezer, then place it in the mask and relax for a few minutes.  Take it off and those puffy eyes have vanished!  $28 at Henri Bendel.

Nothing gives away lack of sleep like dark circles under your eyes.  Napoleon Perdis’ “The One” concealer at Neiman Marcus is a miracle worker!  It only comes in one shade, hence the name, but it syncs to almost every skin tone.  I have hereditary dark circles, but since I discovered “The One” during Neiman’s Beauty Event, my dark circles are gone!   $29 at Neiman Marcus. 

RUFFLES

Ruffles are a definite must in fashion right now and it's no surprise that they are popping up in swimwear.  They look great in bikini tops and I've seen one-shoulder, one-piece suits with ruffles across the top.  It's super cute and very feminine.  I love this suit from Nordstrom.

CROCHET

Another really hot trend in swimwear right now is crochet styles.  I love this one-piece from Everything But Water.  The crochet material is revealing, but still covers at the same time.  The material is super soft and comfortable.  

HOT COLORS - ORANGE AND WHITE

Swimsuits come in all kinds of patterns and colors.  This season, the hottest colors for swimwear will be orange and white.  Orange is a huge color this summer and you will be seeing it a lot in the coming months.  White is also making a comeback in fashion.  Just be sure that if you decide to wear a white swimsuit, it's important to have a little color to your skin so I recommend a spray tan or some sunless tanner before you slip on your white swimsuit.

The NorthPark marketing department is obsessed with this Furla bag at Nordstrom right now!  Remember jellies from the 80’s?  They have come back to life in this fabulous bag!  It comes in a rainbow of bright colors for spring, including Smeraldo shown above.  $228, Nordstrom.      

I am so ready for sandal season and these Dolce Vita sandals at Anthroplogie are the perfect addition to your wardrobe.  They go with shorts, jeans and especially that new sundress that has been patiently waiting in your closet.  $148, Anthropologie.   

For the most unique and amazing jewelry, you have to visit SWAG.  These green quartz earrings from Coralia Leets are delicate, but the color really pops!  This color is perfect for St. Patrick’s Day, but also as we head into spring!  $175, SWAG.

With Spring Break just around the corner that means swimsuit season is upon us. I found these adorable nylon and spandex eyelet Laundry by Shelli Segal Havana lace pants at Everything But Water and think they make the perfect cover-up option. How cute are they!? I usually always just wear tunics or t-shirts as a cover-up, but I like this as fun and stylish alternative. They cover you in all the right places but are also fun and flirty. The pants retail for $88.

This Kitchen Aid Artisan Mixer from Williams-Sonoma NorthPark makes a statement!  It is available in several colors, including black and white!  I have it in pink (my favorite color) and use it all the time.  It comes with several attachments and you can also purchase additional attachments based on your culinary needs and skills.  Williams-Sonoma, $350. 

I love to explore Nordstrom NorthPark’s Home department.  It is full of unique items for just about every room of the house!  I’m crazy about these Jonathan Adler cat salt and pepper shakers.  They are cute, kind of funny and provide a lot of personality to your table.  Nordstrom, $48.

Have you felt the Giraffe line at Nordstrom?  Luxuriously soft throws, baby blankets and robes that will make you want to curl up in them right there in the store!  This Giraffe at Home throw comes in a beauty creamy white.  It’s a great housewarming gift…or gift to spoil yourself!  Nordstrom, $178.

Fiesta dinnerware is a classic!  Fiesta products have been making themselves at home for years and are still as popular as ever.  I love the art-deco design and the variety of colors to choose from, including black and white!  You can mix and match pieces and colors to create an always on-trend table!  Available at Dillard’s and Macy’s NorthPark, $50 (four piece place setting). 

Dallas-Opoly

What do you get when you cross a favorite board game (i.e. Monopoly) with all things you love about Big D?  Why, Dallas-Opoly, of course!  The game features favorite landmarks (like the giant Dallas Zoo giraffe), traditions (like Tex Mex and chili), and even a great big cowboy from the State Fair (who has since gone up in flames!) It’s a great way to teach children about Dallas history while bonding over a fun board game.

Cowboys Connect Four

The traditional game of Connect Four gets a new twist with the rivalry of two of America’s favorite teams – the Redskins and the Cowboys.  Of course, we all know which team we’re on!  Like the original, the object of the game is to connect four discs of the same color next to each other vertically, horizontally, or diagonally before your opponent.

Texas Tic Tac Toe

It’s Tic Tac Toe, Texas style! The armadillo versus the boot makes for a playful twist on a favorite game, and the whimsical board features a faux wood backdrop. Tic Tac Toe is a game that can be learned at a very young age and teaches children about math, strategy and sportsmanship.  What reigns supreme in Texas… the armadillo or the boot?  

Texas Puzzle

One of my son’s favorite activities is putting together puzzles. The activity is a great teaching tool for problem solving and patience, and I love that when we work on it together that it brings us in one place without the distractions of our electronics devices.  This Texas Puzzle is available from Texas Treasures and depicts beautiful images of Texas in a collage pattern. Since it has 1000 pieces, this is definitely a project for the whole family and one that can be put together in stages.

Embellished Heels

It’s not all about the sky high platforms this season. Heel heights are coming down and heels themselves will be making a statement. Designers are really stepping up shoe styles with fancy embellishments like crystals, studs and lots of fun prints and patterns. It’s not so much about the front of the shoe but that statement you are making as you leave the room!

Personalized Jewelry

Unique jewelry with monograms and other personalization is really on trend right now. Many designers are allowing you to write and design your own jewelry which can then be worn as a charm. Alphabet charms, name plate necklaces and anything else that is unique to the wearer is a great accessory trend for the season.

White Hot Accessories

The key color when it comes to accessories this spring is white. You can wear the color with everything and it’s a great compliment to black as well as bright colors like pinks, yellows and blues. White truly does go with everything and that’s why you need a white hot piece of jewelry this season. I love this white necklace available at Banana Republic NorthPark.

Document Clutch

In addition to your wallet, lip gloss and keys, so many women now are adding iPads and tablets to their everyday handbags. Document clutches are becoming super popular since they will hold your favorite form of technology while still looking chic and like a normal handbag. No one would ever know everything you have in there!

Jo Malone Limited Edition Sugar & Spice Collection

I am a huge Jo Malone fan. In fact, my signature fragrance is Red Roses which I’ve worn for years. This spring, the British perfumer is launching a new limited edition Sugar & Spice collection. The five fragrances (Ginger Biscuit, Lemon Tart, Redcurrant & Cream, Bitter Orange Chocolate and Elderflower & Gooseberry) are inspired by “delectable ingredients” that are “decadently inspiring” and “delicious to wear.” I couldn’t agree more. I sampled all five at Neiman Marcus and, while it was tough to choose, my favorite is definitely Redcurrant & Cream. See which scent is your favorite.
