ArtRocks! Andy Warhol This Saturday

THIS SATURDAY
June 11
1 - 4PM, CenterPark Garden
Tunes Provided by DJ JT Donaldson
FREE

If you’re a NorthPark Center expert, then you already know that we have three separate Andy Warhol series on view. However, for those less familiar, between Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom we have Warhol’s Flowers and Soup Cans, and over the Macy’s entrance, Myths. As you can see, it is natural fit to make June’s ArtRocks! event Andy Warhol themed!

Even those who are not super familiar with fine art or art history can recognize the Pittsburgh-born artist’s iconic work. Warhol is perhaps best known for his technicolor portraits of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley (for these portraits, he would often take Polaroids of his subjects first – so be sure to look out for our Polaroid station on Saturday)! Considered one of the pioneers of the Pop Art movement, Warhol used imagery culled from newspapers, popular magazines and advertisements to transform the banality of everyday life into something worthy of the distinction of “art”.

To explore Andy Warhol’s vast body of work, we are partnering with KidArt Dallas, and artists Shamsy Roomiani and Katherine Baronet to create fun and engaging art projects for kids aged 4-12. Design Within Reach has also graciously provided outdoor furniture for the event and JT Donaldson will be DJing, so feel free to come and enjoy the music and our beautiful garden even if you don’t plan on doing any art projects! Bookmarks, a dallas public library, will also be hosting the Critterman at 2PM in honor of Warhol’s Endangered Species series.

Bring some sunscreen, and see you Saturday!
