In April 1966, crowds of women flocked to the Dillard’s Fountain at NorthPark Center for the very first center-wide fashion show. The event was planned in partnership with the Kim Dawson, whose agency we still work with today on all of NorthPark’s fashion shows, events and television segments.
Ever since then, elaborate fashion shows have been a glamorous way to mark significant milestones and celebrate the changing designs throughout the decades.
First Anniversary Fashion Shows – August 1966
For NorthPark’s first anniversary in 1966, eight fashion shows took place around the Dillard’s Fountain, featuring retailers like JC Penney’s and Titche-Goettinger. A “World Designer Collection Fashion Show” occurred three times throughout that first anniversary weekend.
50th Anniversary Fashion Shows – October 2015
Fast-forward to 2015, and we are celebrating our 50th anniversary with Fifty Years of Fashion, two days of fashion shows not unlike the festivities back in 1966. However, instead of the runway circling the Dillard’s Fountain, the shows will take place under the 12-ton Ad Astra, 2005, by Mark di Suvero in NorthCourt, located on Level One between Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. Expect fashions from BCBGMAXAZRIA, Ted Baker, Elie Tahari, Mulberry, Salvatore Ferragamo, Roberto Cavalli and more, all paraded down the runway on Kim Dawson models, of course. Another upgrade from 1966 will be the gift bags. Each guest who purchases a golden ticket will receive a commemorative black tote bag filled with goodies from NorthPark retailers.
