It’s hard to imagine a time when casual shoes sported as much artful and witty decoration as what’s in store at all price ranges.

Steve Madden

Pearls, crystals, glitter, studs, fur, bows, embroidery, stars and appliqué are happily splashed across sneakers, slides and espadrilles.

The embellished slide, which is probably the number one shoe of the moment, is a look that carries through fall on into next spring.

Pretty much every brand has takes on it, from Aldo, H&M and Steve Madden to Gucci, Stuart Weitzman and Valentino.

Check out the zippy collection of furry and jeweled slides from Prada and Miu Miu at Neiman Marcus, which also showcases bedazzled backless shoes by Balenciaga, Vince, Givenchy, Manolo Blahnik and others.

Tory Burch

Tory Burch dots casual footwear with chunky pearls and crystals, while Kate Spade bestows them with embroidery, buckles, glitter and bows.

Nordstrom, Golden Goose Sneaker

Led by influential creative director Alessandro Michele, Gucci lavishes flat espadrilles with floral embroidery and sparks white leather sneakers with pearls, crystals and leather stars. Both the Gucci store and Neiman Marcus present extensive selections, while Nordstrom stocks a flashy gold glitter low-top.

Gregory’s stocks some fabulous over-the-top sneaks, such as Giorgio Fabriano white leather high tops tricked up with fox and mink fur pompoms.

What most of these styles have in common is flat, platform or block heels that are easy to walk in. Whom to thank for glamorizing practical shoes?

Why, you.

Consumers’ demand for chic yet comfortable footwear has pretty much forced designers to get creative with sneakers and slides.

Of course, there are still plenty of stiletto and dress shoes in every designer’s line, and many of them also sport embellishment.

But it sure is nice to run around daily in shoes that sparkle.
