Making Time and Taking Gold

Guest Contributor: Elise Horsak, NorthPark Center Marketing and Public Relations Intern

When the difference between gold and silver can be determined by less than a second, accuracy is everything to an athlete. Since 1932, OMEGA has fulfilled the role 26 times as the official timekeeper for the Olympic Games. Over the years, OMEGA has revolutionized timekeeping by innovating their accuracy skills and technology, now providing high-resolution precision that can detect times to the one millionth of a second.

Their goal, however, has always remained constant as they strive to record perfect times for the athletes who strive for gold.

The countdown is on until the 2016 games, and to celebrate, OMEGA is releasing their “Rio 2016” collection of limited edition and Olympic inspired timepieces.

The Seamaster Diver 300m
This piece is inspired the rich culture of Rio de Janerio, sporting a wave pattern dial that resembles the mosaic sidewalk of Copacabana beach. Along its black ceramic bezel ring, lacquered numerals stand out in vibrant colors to represent the five colors of the Olympic rings. It is a must-have for an Olympic enthusiast, but only 3,016 will be produced for the games.

The Seamaster Bullhead
The Bullhead timepiece is especially unique with its blue leather strap and vibrant stitching, utilizing the five Olympic colors for a distinct and spirited look.  Its chronograph features allow it to measure 30-minute and small second time periods in addition to keeping the traditional time and date. With only 316 pieces of this design to be made, the design and exclusiveness truly make this a one of a kind collectable.

The Speedmaster Mark II
Like a spot on the podium, this third and final piece in the collection stands for the glory and prestige that comes with wearing an Olympic medal. On a matte black dial, three district subdials are fashioned in bronze, silver, and gold to represent each of the three placements. Also included are a 30-minute and a 12-hour recorder as well as a transparent and illuminated tachymeter for measuring speed. For the 2,016 pieces that will be produced, this watch is fit for those who strive for accuracy and excellence.

As limited edition pieces, each watch also features an embossed caseback with the official logo for the 2016 Rio games as well as its limited edition number.
