School may be out for the summer, but learning is still in session with the annual Mayor’s Summer Reading Program, an eight-week program designed to encourage children to develop a love of reading.
Parents can sign up for the program at NorthPark Center’s Bookmarks, a dallas public library designed for children 12 and under, located near NorthCourt next to La Duni.
Taking place June 6 through August 1, 2015, the program gives kids the opportunity to earn weekly prizes by reading and giving brief reviews of stories. For kids who read 30 minutes a day for eight weeks, can qualify to win a grand prize at the end of the program. Approved material includes books, e-books, audio books and magazines, which can all be found at Bookmarks, a dallas public library with help from the informative librarians on staff.
In addition to the Mayor’s Summer Reading Program, Bookmarks offers a variety of programming throughout the summer to help keep kids engaged and entertained. “Wiggly, Waggly Words,” features an interactive story time with movement, rhymes, music and books for children 7 and under. “Tickles for Toddlers” gives 2 and 3-year-olds the chance to jump around to songs and stories. Baby Bounce Basics is great for moms and caregivers of infants up to 24 months and features interactive music and nursery rhymes.
