Sergio Storel’s copper sculpture titled Torso is somewhat abstracted, appearing more like the trunk of a tree than a human torso. As the artist has explained, “The human torso has been the basis of much of my sculptural oeuvre. I have dedicated many an hour to it. It has become a central theme, like a myth, a tree trunk in human destiny. I made torsos of which the surface of the back, forged, hammered, and welded, is a representation of the human expression. The welds constitute the writing of the sculptural assemblage.”

What Stanley Marcus began as a personal collecting endeavor became a critical part of the Neiman Marcus Company and is currently directed by an on-staff art curator.
