Meet Colby Hanks and Kaleigh Walker of We Yogis.
Colby Hanks is a 500-hour Yoga instructor with a background in dance and decade of experience as an ACE-certified group fitness instructor. Although she's originally from Texas, Colby spent her 20s in the UK where she worked as a brand ambassador for Manuka, founded Slice Studios in London and co-hosted a series of wellness retreats with Tanya Maher, author of “The Uncook Book”. Her yoga training is largely influenced by Rocket, Hatha, Yogic Arts and Ashtanga intensives with The Yoga People in London, Yoga Yoga in Austin, Duncan Wong of Japan, and David Kyle and Marie Belle of Puerto Rico. Colby now works in Dallas as an analyst, enjoys jogging having quickly retired from marathons, and finds it a thrill leading wellness seminars, classes and private retreats.
Kaleigh Walker's background in and love for dance led her to try her first yoga class in 2006. Since then, she's immersed herself in studying and practicing the fundamentals of yogic philosophy, completing her 200-hour Yoga Alliance certification at YogaHop in Santa Monica in 2008 and Corepower Yoga in Los Angeles in 2011. Kaleigh blends a mixture of basic yogic fundamentals with creative sequencing and uplifting music to motivate her students to further deepen and develop their own individual practice. In addition to teaching yoga, Kaleigh is also a NSCA Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Nutrition Coach and a Lululemon Ambassador. After nearly 10 years in Los Angeles, Kaleigh has relocated to Dallas to share her passion for all things healthy!
MM: How would you describe your fitness fashion?
CH: I love anything that’s functional, flattering and has some occasional flash!
MM: What is the fitness accessory that you absolutely can’t live without?
KW: I absolutely love Nike’s Pegasus running shoe – so I’m literally in them every day. They are so comfortable and fit my feet perfectly, so whenever a new style comes out I can’t wait to check out the different colors!
MM: Do you have any advice for anyone who is looking to become a certified fitness instructor?
CH: Seize the opportunity to teach when it surfaces, but never neglect your time as a student! Everyone needs a coach.
MM: This is always my favorite question - what song motivates you the most?
KW: There are so many great songs, so it’s hard to pick just one! When it comes to serious motivation, I can always count on Lose Yourself by Eminem.
We Yogis will be at NorthPark Center every Tuesday at 6:30PM throughout the month of May. Register for a class here.
