The official start to Summer Solstice is June 20, but we all know that the Texas weather can heat up long before that. My beauty routine begins to shift from fighting the dry heaters to protecting myself from the harsh sun. There are many ways to keep yourself looking refreshed and flawless this summer, all you need are the right products. I have some of my favorite beauty items that can help you survive and even enjoy the heat.
The Clearing Mask
In the summer, we typically spend more time outdoors and sweat can cause clogged pores. It is important to use a mask to clear away toxins and impurities. The Origins Active Charcoal Mask ($26 / 3.4 fl. oz.) is one of my favorites for all types of skin. The Bamboo Charcoal acts like a magnet to draw out environmental contaminants. It is simple and gentle but gets the job done. Once a week, use a cloth to open pores with warm water, apply mask, allow to dry and rinse well.
Super Fluid Sunscreen
I never wanted to hear it as a kid, but wear sunscreen every day. Kiehl’s Since 1851's Dermatologist Solutions Super Fluid UV Mineral Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ ($38 / 1.7 fl. oz.) is 100% mineral-based to make it safe enough for sensitive skin. This non-irritating and comfortable sunscreen is so sheer and light that you won’t realize you even have it on. Fight the effects of UV with a trusted skincare brand like Kiehl’s.
Soft and Smooth Lips
Exfoliating the body is something I always knew was important, but your lips can use some love too. The Sugar Lip Polish from fresh ($24) uses brown sugar crystals to buff away dry flakes and shea butter to nourish the skin. Proven to keep lips moisturized for 6 hours, this product can save you from the days you lose your lip balm. Use this and avoid cracked lips so you can wear your favorite lip color (like fresh’s Sugar Fig Lip Treatment, $24) all summer long.
Tame the Mane
I have a lot of hair and the summer heat makes styling a nightmare. Control your locks with the Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream from Etré Belle Beauty and Medical Spa ($13 / 2.5 fl. oz.). This cream solves frizzy hair and still leaves behind a nourishing, natural feel. Apply a small amount to damp or dry hair and style as usual. I even use it when allowing my hair to dry for a beachy vibe. While you’re in Etré Belle picking up a bottle, treat yourself to a relaxing spa day.
