Legendary designer Diane von Furstenberg made a special visit to Neiman Marcus at NorthPark Center last week. She is on a month-long whirlwind tour promoting her new book, new TV show, new collection and celebrating the 40th anniversary of the iconic wrap dress. Dallasites came out in droves to meet von Furstenberg and to scoop up her fall collection at CUSP.
She happily greeted all the fans, and helped several clients in the dressing room – even tying wrap dresses on them herself! While addressing the crowd with Neiman Marcus Creative Director Ken Downing and CEO Karen Katz, von Furstenberg declared, “Dallas women are the most beautiful women in the world!”
Her new book, The Woman I Wanted to Be, comes out today. The designer has authored several books in the past, but feels that this memoir brings her life full circle. “I’m older and I have a lot more to say,” she said. “I went deeper into myself.” The book will take you through von Furstenberg’s remarkable life, from her childhood in Brussels to creating the wrap dress and her mission to empower other women.
In addition to releasing a new book, von Furstenberg is getting back into television. The designer and her beautiful showroom in New York’s Meatpacking District were often shown in MTV’s 2008 reality show “The City.” Now, with her new show “House of DVF,” the designer says she’s ready to change the landscape of reality TV. “I don’t like [reality tv] because it objectifies women,” von Furstenberg said. “I wanted to do something that could be glamorous and fun but would, at the same time, send an empowering message to women.” The show follows several contestants as they compete to win a coveted spot as brand ambassador. “House of DVF” premiers on Monday, November 2 on E!
