Train Tuesday: GRIT Fitness

Each month, Nike at NorthPark Center partners with a local fitness studio or gym for Train Tuesday, a free series of workout classes right here in CenterPark Garden. GRIT Fitness, a full-body boutique fitness concept, is November’s featured studio. Today, we’re getting to know two instructors – one being the founder and owner, Brittani Rettig.

Brittani Rettig

Brittani is the brains (and the grit!) behind this month’s featured studio. After receiving her MBA from Harvard Business School and spending time in the consulting world, she followed her passion for innovative fitness and opened GRIT Fitness in January 2015. The brand has since grown to two studios and serves over 1,000 clients each month.

SF: What makes GRIT Fitness unique here in Dallas?

BR: Our #GRITFAM! The strong community of women that workout at GRIT is truly special. Everyone knows each other’s names, we participate in a monthly challenge, and enjoy social events to mix and mingle. It’s so awesome to be a part of a positive sisterhood.

SF: What type of music do you listen to while you work out?

BR: Lots of hip hop! It’s strong and powerful, and makes me feel fierce. “Bricks” by Carnage is a must-have on any workout playlist.

SF: What is your favorite type of class to teach and why?

BR: Oh man, that’s like asking a mom to pick her favorite child. I love all the formats that we offer at GRIT, from Body Sculpt to REVOLUTION Cycle, they each have a different purpose and always make me feel energized!

Brittni Hunt

Two Brits are always better than one! Brittni Hunt is one of GRIT’s dancing queens, teaching a high-energy Dance Club Cardio class every Wednesday night. Brittni is quite a busy woman – when she’s not shaking it at GRIT, she’s working full-time or spending time with her two children.

SF: What is your favorite part about being a fitness instructor?

BH: The inspiration I get from my students. Seeing their personal journeys, whether it be physical, mental, or emotional, empowers me to be the light and energy they need when they’re in my class.

SF: What is your go-to workout gear?

BH: My trusty Nike Lunar Sculpt shoes for teaching Dance Club Cardio, because the proper pair of shoes is essential to a successful workout. So many people wear the wrong type of shoes for the workout they are doing – for example, running shoes shouldn’t be worn for a dance class, because the support and traction aren’t optimal for the workout. Plus, they’re super cute!

SF: What advice would you give to someone who is starting to work out for the first time?

BH: Get out of your comfort zone and make a friend in class. Accountability is everything, and when you have a friend telling you to get off the couch and get to class, you’re more likely to go. Trying new things isn’t as scary when you’re not going it alone.

Don’t miss Brittni’s Dance Club Cardio class on Tuesday, November 8 at 6:30PM in CenterPark Garden.
